Representation counts. Here at Polson and Polson, we are known as tough lawyers who fight hard for their clients, who are always well prepared. We have won many cases for our clients, and it is because we are tenacious and stand up for their rights. We think that reputation is important and are willing to represent a variety of clients with experience and expertise behind us.
What Sets Us ApartA motivation to want to succeed, and a motivation to want to do our very best for our clients in every case sets us apart. When a person talks about being responsible for someone’s life or someone’s liberty, it leads to sleepless nights, and a motivation to keep working until they can be helped.
We want to treat other people the way we would want to be treated, so being zealous and trying to help our clients sets us apart. We are very motivated to help our clients get a good outcome.
Initial Case ProcessWe try to get as much information as we can really before the client comes out. Often, we may send a questionnaire to the client to have them to complete and then send to us before the initial meeting just so we are up to speed on everything.
Sometimes, we will call the law enforcement agency involved or we will call the district attorney’s office to see if we can get information that way, such as copies of reports. If there are any press reports, we try to collect that data. We do a background search to see whether our clients had any previous dealings with law enforcement or not.
That is the starting point, but we like to have a longer meeting. The first time that we meet with someone, we like to educate our clients, first of all, about what the process is and what they can expect as the case progresses through. We try to educate them about what the law is as far as what they are charged with and what the possible legal defenses are.
It is really important to us to listen to what a client wants to say. Listening is a really important skill for lawyers to have. It is not just the lawyer talking, it is the client. They may have some particular questions or anxieties. Often, clients come to us and they are experiencing a great deal of anxiety about what is going to happen to them.
We try to help them to have some realistic expectations about looking back on our experience, and one of the things we bring to the table is a great deal of experience in handling a variety of the cases. We try to help our client lower their anxiety level and get a complete understanding of what is involved in going through the court system when charged with a criminal case.
Finding an AttorneyThe general public does not really know how to hire a lawyer because they do not know the right questions to ask. Talking to lawyers and knowing what to ask a lawyer will help them pick the best attorney. There is no substitute for experience, so that should the first consideration.
We only do criminal cases. We defend the accused in court. That is what we have chosen our lives’ work to be. It is helping people who have been accused of a crime to be their representative in court, to be their advocate. There are always ethical considerations that we always take into account in every case, but our job is to win, and we do our very best to do that.
